Disgraced TV journos Charlie Rose and Matt Lauer are back hosting another small market morning show — but this time, as imagined by Fox’s “Let’s Be Real,” in Fairbanks, Alaska.

On Thursday night’s episode, the “Let’s Be Real” puppets imagine Rose and Lauer now toiling in the 49th state — moving on from their previous. stint as hosts of “AM Sarasota” (as seen on last fall’s “Let’s Get Real” special).

“My what a long way we’ve come from our last job briefly hosting a morning show in Sarasota, 4700 miles to give you some idea of that distance,” Lauer says. Adds Rose: “It would be way too far for a Sarasota police detective to travel here, just to question someone about a minor workplace romantic indiscretion.”

Rose and Lauer then interview an infectious disease expert to discuss the state of the COVID-19 vaccine. And whereas at first the line of questioning appears rather normal, things soon get weird: “Won’t normal be amazing,” the anchors say. “Back to the way things were before this year long nightmare. Remember back when you could go to a ballgame or visit old relatives shake someone’s hand at a coworkers behind? Or give her a spontaneous kiss on the lips without worrying it might kill you?”

“Let’s Be Real” is based on the French pop culture sketch puppet show “Les Guignols.” Robert Smigel executive produces the show, which comes from Propagate. “Let’s Be Real” is the first show to jointly come out of Fox’s scripted and unscripted units. Having aired as a special in October, the show returned for a limited run on April 29. Celebrities parodied include Dr. Anthony Fauci, Governor Andrew Cuomo, Senators Ted Cruz, Kim Kardashian and LeBron James, as well as the return of previously featured puppets such as President Joe Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris, Donald Trump, Former Vice President Mike Pence and Kanye West.
