At this week's American Powerlifting Federation (APF) Cincinnati Women’s Pro/Am, powerlifter Leah Reichman broke a 15-and-a-half year-long record when she squatted an impressive 399.1kg. You can see her world record squat below.

Reichman’s world record squat is 11.7kg heavier than the previous record of 387.5kg, which was set by powerlifter, bodybuilder, pro-wrestler and strongman Becca Swanson at the 2005 World Powerlifting WPO Semifinals.

Writing on Instagram, Reichman said that her impressive lift had been a long time in the making and was one of the first goals she set herself when she first started competing. "This number is something I’ve had in my head for 4.5 years. I worked hard for this," she wrote.

Having smashed the squat world record, Reichman is expected to go after the world record for the combined total heaviest lifts in the squat, bench press and deadlift next. She already holds the second heaviest total of all time – with her scores for the three big lifts totalling 862.5kg.

The record is currently held by Swanson and stands at 930kg, which like the previous squat world record she set back in 2005.
