A trailer for upcoming drama The Beast Must Die starring The Good Fight's Cush Jumbo and Chernobyl's Jared Harris has been released.

In the first original series for subscription streaming service Britbox, Jumbo (The Good Wife, Vera and Deadwater Fell) plays a mother set out to avenge her son's death.

The dark and suspenseful trailer opens with the dramatic Isle of Wight coastline and a voiceover saying "Guilt isn't atonement, it's self indulgence."

The Beast Must Die: What's it about?

Following the hit and run of a six-year-old boy, his mother is intent on avenging his death and the only thing keeping her going is the desire to hunt down and kill the man she believes is responsible.

Detective Strangeways (Billy Howle who you'll recognise from The Serpent, MotherFatherSon and On Chesil Beach) has to unpick this web of tragedy and steer a course to justice.

The Beast Must Die: Who is in it?

As well as Jumbo, Harris and Howle, BAFTA-nominated Geraldine James OBE (Back to Life, Anne with an E, Utopia), Nathaniel Parker (The Inspector Lynley Mysteries, The Outcast, Vanity Fair), Maeve Dermody (Carnival Row, Marcella, The Frankenstein Chronicles), Mia Tomlinson (The Lost Pirate Kingdom) and newcomer Barney Sayburn.

The Beast Must Die: When is it on?

The first two episodes of the five part thriller will premiere exclusively on Britbox from 27 May, with a further three episodes launching weekly on Thursdays.
