Very has launched a new 60-second Christmas advert celebrating all the things we can only get away with at this time of year.

This second visual follows on from the October advert celebrating early shoppers, which was the first major festive advert of the year, but both are part of the Very Best Excuses campaign.

The new Very Christmas advert (watch above) is set to a choir of carol singers performing a version of 'Holly Jolly Christmas', and features a whole host of guilty pleasures, from dressing babies up in festive costumes to drinking gin in your PJs while binge-watching period dramas.

The first advert released in October features a series of 'very best excuses' we all use during the holidays, including a family excitingly decking the house with Christmas decorations at Halloween (watch below).

Carly O’Brien, Chief Marketing Officer at The Very Group, says: 'At Very, our mantra is about enabling people to purchase what they need – be it treats or everyday items – that create joy "this Very moment".

'After Christmas was pared back for many last year by last-minute lockdowns, we wanted to get into the spirit early and unashamedly embrace the season as soon as the leaves start to fall. As the ultimate Christmas enthusiasts and champions of now, we have focused on empowering and enabling our customers to say yes to all the excuses that make their Christmas so wonderful.'

Very Christmas advert 2020 recap

Last year, Very's Christmas advert encouraged the nation to embrace every single moment in the countdown to Christmas Day. Described as 'charmingly honest', the advert sent the message that all the wonderfully festive moments in the build up to Christmas is something we should all embrace and treasure, too.

The advert ended on this note: 'Christmas is full of amazing moments. Christmas is this Very moment.'

Very Christmas advert 2019 recap

Last year's Christmas advert from Very celebrated the joy of a community coming together at Christmas time. It centred around the residents of Chester Street – with characters from previous Very.co.uk Christmas ads making an appearance – all coming together to make Christmas extra-special for elderly neighbour Sidney, who would otherwise be alone.

Very Christmas advert 2018 recap

'Find the gift that helps them find their gift' was the theme behind Very's 2018 Christmas advert. The festive ad, titled Elsie's Gift, was a short, 30-second animation telling the story of a schoolgirl named Elsie, who dreamt of being an astronaut. For Christmas, her parents gifted her with a toy astronaut helmet, which inspired Elsie to pursue her dream.

She left home to study Astrophysics at university, with the space helmet taking pride of place in her car. Fast forwarding some years, Elsie fulfilled her dream and became an astronaut in space, something which filled her parents with pride.
