Waterloo Road airs shock exit for show regularBBC

The following article contains major spoilers for the final episode of Waterloo Road's latest series, which is now available to watch on BBC iPlayer. Some readers may prefer to avoid these storyline details, as the episodes haven't yet aired on BBC One.

Waterloo Road airs a devastating death in the series finale as Danny Lewis is killed in a fire at the school, which was started by bad boy Myles Massey.

New episodes of Waterloo Road have dropped today on BBC iPlayer, with newcomer Myles joining the school, having been let go by a football academy.

Myles wastes no time making enemies on his first day, immediately clashing with fellow student Dwayne Jackson during a community football match.

Amid their feud on the pitch, Myles ends up injuring himself – leaving his football career in further jeopardy. Myles' anger over this is a theme that continues throughout the series, eventually coming to fruition in the final episode.

As Waterloo Road launches their new school radio, Danny uses the opportunity to try to make amends for past mistakes, leaving Myles even more furious. Myles' actions begin to catch up with him as he's alienated by his peers and his mum also stands up to him as well. He then vows to get his revenge by starting a fire at the school.

Danny and Samia are among those trapped in the fire and are left scrambling to escape. While Samia is brought to safety, Danny decides go to back to Myles who is lying injured among the flames.

After a scramble, Myles manages to escape out of the window, but Danny is still in the building when an explosion goes off.

Valerie is left devastated to learn that Danny has later died in hospital, while news quickly spreads among the grief-stricken teachers and students. Danny's peers later decide to pay a touching tribute to him in the final moment of the series.

Adam Abbou joined the show as Danny for the 11th series earlier this year. He had a huge storyline in series 11's finale, as he was followed into the school and targeted by dangerous villain Vinnie. The troubled schoolboy responded by stabbing Vinnie and he was later arrested for the crime. This latest series saw Danny struggling to get his life back on track.

Waterloo Road launches its new series on Tuesday, May 16 at 8pm on BBC One, with all episodes dropping on BBC iPlayer on the same day.
