Wedding photographer's cringe-worthy mistake leaves bride outraged: 'Call off the wedding'

A videographer captured an awkward moment between a bride and the wedding photographer, which shocked the entire wedding party.

User @jpvideography2141, whose name is John Pattyson, shared footage of the incident on TikTok. In the caption, he explained the photographer had accidentally called the bride by the groom’s ex-girlfriend’s name.

Pattyson often shares candid, behind-the-scenes videos from weddings. According to his TikTok bio, he loves “first looks, dancing and when grooms cry.”

The photographer called the bride, whose name is Katelyn, by the name of the bride she had taken photos of the week prior. Her name was Taylor. Taylor happened to be the name of the groom’s ex-girlfriend, according to a comment from Pattyson.

Hearing the names “Corey and Taylor” together at a wedding was probably pretty awkward for the members of the wedding party who knew the couple’s past — especially when the mistake happened a second time.

“The couple, just say the couple,” Katelyn said with a laugh.

She told Newsweek that she was caught off guard by the incident, but she forgot all about it until it went viral on TikTok.

“At first I was like, ‘Did she really just say that name? Out of all the names she could have chosen!’ I just laughed it off and didn’t think of it being that big of a deal,” she said. “I honestly forgot it happened until I saw the video on TikTok. It was my dream wedding, so I wasn’t going to make a little mix-up like that ruin my day.”

Pattyson told Newsweek it’s an “easy mistake to make,” adding that Katelyn was “totally forgiving.”

“The reaction was delayed at first, but then the wedding party all reacted since they knew all about it. It was definitely a good laugh,” he explained. “I think if it had only happened once, I wouldn’t have made a clip of it, but with it happening a couple of times, it was definitely memorable. All in all though, purely a coincidence and honest mistake.”

Commenters were split over the incident. Some saw the mistake as a huge faux pas.

“If this happened to me I would have been soooo mad the whole wedding,” one user said.

“I would literally walk out,” another wrote.

“I would be so mad I would call off the wedding,” a third responded.

Others were sympathetic.

“Y’all do know the wedding photographers go to several weddings in a day or week. I’m a florist and a photographer and I have done this. We don’t mean to,” a user wrote.

“As a photographer, I call people by the wrong name all the time. I would die if this happened to me,” another said.

At least the viral moment was an opportunity to get 2.5 million views for those gorgeous wedding photos.
