'She should sue': Wedding photographer reportedly diagnosed with COVID-19 after groom hid his diagnosis

A new report about a newlywed couple who went ahead with their wedding plans despite the groom testing positive for COVID-19 just a day prior has sparked outrage on Twitter.

The article, published on Dec. 16 in Texas Monthly, tells the story of a photographer who had already been working at a wedding for over an hour when she was approached by a bridesmaid with some startling news.

“The woman thanked her for still showing up, considering ‘everything that’s going on with the groom,'” the outlet reported. “When the photographer asked what she meant by that, the bridesmaid said the groom had tested positive for the coronavirus the day before.”

The photographer, who was not identified in the profile, allegedly told Texas Monthly that the bridesmaid was acting puzzlingly nonchalant about the announcement, and was more so making small talk than dropping a bombshell when she spilled the beans.

“She was looking for me to be like, ‘Oh, that’s crazy,’ like I was going to agree with her that it was fine,” the photographer told the outlet. “So I was like, ‘What are you talking about?’ And she was like, ‘Oh no no no, don’t freak out. He doesn’t have symptoms. He’s fine.'”

Obviously, the panicked photographer — who later tested positive for COVID-19 themselves — knew the situation was anything but fine. For context, the CDC recommends that those who test positive for COVID-19 isolate for 10 days since the date of their positive test, even those who have no symptoms.

GQ reporter Chris Gayomali shared a screenshot of the offending excerpt with the caption “oh my god” on Twitter the same day the article was published, where it drummed up quite a response.

Gayomali’s tweet has since racked up over 7,100 retweets and more than 740 replies from Twitter users enraged by the couple’s blatant disregard for the safety of their guests and those working their wedding, like the photographer.

“It is unfathomable to me that people are still out there hosting weddings,” wrote another.

“Don’t forget this damning closing paragraph,” said a third, including a screenshot of a portion of the profile where a bridesmaid had the audacity to suggest the bride’s wedding day was more important than the photographer’s children’s health.

“She absolutely should sue,” one user suggested of the photographer. “Not only did they know he was positive, [but] it seems they intentionally hid that information from vendors so they wouldn’t cancel. Maybe if more people start suing [sic] and winning, people will stop putting others at risk so recklessly.”

“Having a wedding during Covid is bad enough,” wrote another user. “This couple deserves to be jailed given they knew the groom had tested positive and they exposed all of the guests and the folks working the wedding.”

“As a wedding photographer this is not shocking (& super sad),” said yet another. “Most of our clients were great, under 10 people, were tested prior, etc. But some clients were absolute monsters, and we just gave them their money back & called it a day. You get the absolute best and the worst.”
