SINGAPORE — Here is a round-up of sports events and developments in Singapore in the past week (21 to 27 December):

Our Tampines Hub receives IOC trophy for its design, sustainable practices

The Singapore National Olympic Council (SNOC) presented the 2019 IOC Trophy “Sport and Sustainable Architecture” to Our Tampines Hub on Monday (21 December), recognising the multi-purpose complex for its design and sustainable practices.

“We are very impressed with the design and thought process behind Our Tampines Hub which centred on championing eco-sustainability, optimising resources and minimising waste,” said Ng Ser Miang, Singapore’s International Olympic Committee vice-president.

“The result of this multi-agency managed community hub has created a functional lifestyle hub with superior sporting facilities for the community to enjoy.”

Christmas cheer for community at Team Nila event

Team Nila, the volunteering arm of ActiveSG, organised the Christmas Celebration@ActiveSG at five ActiveSG Sport Centres on 19 December to bring cheer to the community.

More than 300 participants and Team Nila volunteers took part in activities such as TTX, a new format of outdoor table tennis, special Christmas edition of outdoor Zumba, Reax lights, as well as a special edition neon-light night run.

Participants were also encouraged to pen their well-wishes and thoughts for family and friends on a Christmas tree.

More than 1,000 participants at Santa Run for Wishes 2020

This year’s Santa Run for Wishes 2020 – an annual fund-raising running event organised by Make-A-Wish Singapore – was held virtually from 2 to 19 December, and saw participation from 1,035 runners.

The total distance recorded is 22,687km – well ahead of the initial aim of 21,517km – as participants also took part in activities such as bi-weekly giveaways and a best-dressed competition.

With the support of Hasbro and SAP, Make-A-Wish Singapore was also able to deliver toys to children, as part of the Santa on Wheels initiative. In addition, the organisation is also continuing the annual Wish Tree Campaign: from 25 December to 8 January, corporate partners are invited to adopt their own virtual Christmas tree and start a fundraising page with the organisation.

Members of the public can make a donation at to add the top star, give a present, hang a bauble or switch on a light to see the tree decorated and come to life.
