West Ham stars set for £9m bonus if they seal Champions League spot for next season

West Ham’s players will land themselves a bonus pot of around £9million if they qualify for next season’s Champions League.

The Hammers would move up to third in the Premier League with a win over Newcastle this weekend after beating Leicester on Sunday and are firmly in control of their destiny with seven games to go.

Captain Mark Noble negotiated the Champions League bonus with the West Ham board ahead of the season, having also led talks over wage deferrals during the first lockdown last year.

There will be no additional bonus for a Europa League finish, but there is an incremental bonus system in place which starts with a ninth-placed finish.

It is unclear whether Jesse Lingard would be a recipient of the bonus, though Noble revealed this week that he's already lost a bet to the loanee after he bagged his eighth goal for the club on Sunday, landing him a night at London's Corinthia Hotel, where the most expensive room is £2,400 a night.

“It’s going to cost me a fortune those two goals,” Noble told the club website. “He has been fantastic for us.”

Lingard, who has scored more Premier League goals than any other player since his arrival in east London, has attracted interest from other top clubs should he leave Manchester United this summer, but West Ham are confident they have a strong case to keep the 28-year-old.

Lingard is settled and happy in London, has formed a close relationship with many in the squad - especially Noble and Declan Rice - and Champions League football could seal the deal.

Manager David Moyes has the funds available for a transfer, though it is understood that Lingard whose contract at Old Trafford is up at the end of next season, will have to force the issue with Manchester United chief Ed Woodward if he wants to leave the club this summer.
