Whitney Houston's iconic 1992 romantic drama The Bodyguard is being remade at Warner Bros.

The classic tearjerker starred Whitney as singer Rachel Marron and Kevin Costner as former Secret-Service-agent-turned bodyguard hired to protect her.

The original grossed more than £200 million at the worldwide box office, and features the best-selling movie soundtrack of all time, including the hit single 'I Will Always Love You' by Whitney, which spent ten weeks at No.1 in the UK.

Tony-nominated playwright Matthew López will write the screenplay, according to Variety, which was originally penned by Lawrence Kasdan. Speculation over who will be cast as the star-crossed leads have so far included Thor actors Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson, and Channing Tatum and Cardi B.

The reports have received a mixed response from fans, with some concerned it could tarnish the much-loved and cherished original. However, having multi-award-winning playwright Matthew on board can only be a step in the right direction.

Matthew's Tony-nominated play The Inheritance debuted at London's Young Vic in 2018, with critics lauding it as "the most important American play of the century".

It went on to win an Olivier Award, Drama Desk Award, Evening Standard Theatre Award, London Critics’ Circle Award, Outer Critics Circle Award, Drama League Award, GLAAD Media Award, WhatsOnStage Award and the South Bank Sky Arts Award.

Casting will be announced in due course, and we have to admit, we're definitely intrigued...
