Sex Education season 3: Netflix release brand new trailer

Undoubtedly, one of the best things to have come out of Netflix in recent years is Sex Education, which is why we're beyond excited that a third season will soon be gracing screens.

From its no-nonsense, open and inclusive attitude to sex, to its idyllic countryside setting - and essentially everything Gillian Anderson ever does, it's fast become one of the nation's most beloved programmes, and excitingly — along with a brilliant new trailer for season 3 — we also have some brand new behind-the-scenes pics to feast our eyes on.

Is there a Sex Education season 3 trailer?

After providing us with a funny teaser promotional video trailer, featuring Moordale students recruiting new pupils to the school (and giving us our first glimpse of Jemima Kirke in her new role as headmistress Hope Haddon), Netflix have finally released our first proper season 3 trailer. We couldn't be more excited...

Watch the season 3 trailer below:

The trailer – which was released via Netflix UK’s official Twitter account this week – sees Otis, Maeve and the rest of the Moordale crew return to school after the summer holidays, and meeting their new no-nonsense headmistress, Mrs Hope Haddon (Jemma Kirke).

In the new trailer, we learn that the sexual activities of Moordale’s students have been raising attention, so much so that a news reporter has dubbed the school the ‘Sex School’.

Whilst the new headmistress lays out her plan to stamp out this reputation, we also get a glimpse of what our favourite students have been up to. From Otis' new mysterious love interest, to Adam and Eric's blossoming relationship, Otis and Maeve's will-they-won't-they tension and sadly — Amy and Maeve's friendship fall-out.

Netflix released some new behind-the-scenes photos last month via Twitter, captioning the collage: 'We are respectfully bowled over. Here's your next look at Season 3 of @sexeducation ~coming~ 17 September.'

When will the third season of Sex Education be released?

At the end of June, Netflix gave us our first look of the Moordale students in their brand new uniforms, ahead of its third season, along with an official season 3 release date of 17th September 2021. Meaning all our favourite characters will be back on our screens in just a few short weeks. Yay!

Unlike the first two seasons, which both premiered in January, filming was delayed due to the pandemic, which is why season 3 of the much-loved show didn't start production until September 2020 (usually starting in April) and still hasn't hit screens.

Everything we know about Sex Education season 3

Back in a January 2021 interview with The Guardian, Asa Butterfield (aka lead character Otis) revealed that, unlike the first two seasons, the third season will not pick up immediately where season 2 left off.

'There’s a bit of a time-jump since the season two cliffhanger,' he explained. 'Otis is back at school but he’s got different things on his plate. He’s grown up a bit and become slightly more sassy.'

Adding: 'It’s been fun to portray his newfound charisma. Don’t worry, though, he’s still tragically awkward too.'

In September 2020, Netflix announced that, alongside the return of our favourite characters Otis, Maeve and Eric, a new swathe of exciting recognisable faces will be joining the cast, including Jessa from Girls and Lucius Malfoy from the Harry Potter franchise.

Jemima Kirke — also known as the interminably enchanting Jessa in hit HBO series Girls (and Lena Dunham's childhood best friend) — will be appearing as headmistress Hope, a former Moordale student who returns to the school, during Mr Groff's absence, determined to turn it back into the 'pillar of excellence' it once was.

Alongside Kirke, Jason Isaacs (aka Lucius Malfoy) will star as Peter Groff — the more successful and arrogant older brother of former head teacher Mr. Groff — who has been putting him up since his marital separation.

Singer Dua Saleh is also joining the cast for her acting debut, playing 'Cal –a non-binary student who immediately clashes Hope’s fresh vision for the school.'

Season 2 saw the introduction of various new characters, like Anne-Marie Duff starring as Maeve's mum, Sami Outalbali as French student Rahim, Chinenye Ezeudu as Viv and George Robinson as Isaac, so we can't wait to see how the newest cast members will fit in, along with what all our old favourites like Otis, Eric, Maeve, Eric and Aimee have been up to.

The first two seasons of Sex Education are available to watch on Netflix now.
