Why you need to try a clarifying shampoo

For most of us, our haircare regime consists of shampoo, conditioner, and the occasional hair mask.

But does your hair sometimes look dull or lacklustre despite using your regular products? It may be time to consider investing in a clarifying shampoo, as the formulas have been created to remove all build-up from the strands.

“A clarifying shampoo works to detoxify the hair and remove product build-up, excess sebum, hard water minerals, and environmental pollutants from the hair,” Mark Woolley, hairstylist, founder and creative director of Electric London, explained.

“It is great to be used before a colour service and before using a hair mask as it will allow the hair colour or hair mask to penetrate deeper into the hair shaft. Your hair will be left clean, fresh, and healthy with a deeply cleansed scalp.”

A clarifying shampoo can be used on all hair types, but dry or very curly locks won’t need cleansing as regularly.

“For dry hair and very curly hair, I’d recommend only using a clarifying shampoo a couple of times a month, and for all other hair types it can be used one a week,” the expert commented.

Some great options to check out include Head & Shoulders’ Deep Cleanse Scalp Detox Anti Dandruff Shampoo, which is infused with sea minerals and formulated to target the root cause of dandruff, and L'Oreal Paris’ Elvive Extraordinary Oil More than Shampoo, which features a creamy mask-like texture that transforms into a rich foam to really detoxifies without stripping or drying.

Elsewhere, Moroccanoil’s Clarifying Shampoo is rich in argan and avocado oils, keratin, lavender, and jojoba extracts, while Urtekram’s Soft Wild Rose Shampoo has a mild formula based on sugar tensides that ensure a gentle cleanse, while seakale and beetroot extracts protect colour and offer plenty of shine. The delicate rose scent is a nice touch too!
