Wife asks husband to sign contract before taking out money: ‘I have a bad feeling about this’

A wife doesn’t want to lend her husband $14,000, and he’s furious with her.

She asked Reddit’s “Am I the A******? (AITA)” forum for help dealing with the situation. Her husband was married twice previously and has six kids. They have separate finances, and he isn’t very good with money. When he asked her for a $14,000 loan, she agreed on one condition.

“Lately, he’s been struggling with money. He borrowed from a number of people including my own brother, about $4,000 from him just a week ago,” she explained.

“He just seemed desperate for money. I asked what the deal was and he said that he needed the money for the kids which seemed fishy since kids don’t really need that much money for their expenses.”

That’s when he asked to borrow $14,000 from her. She agreed to lend him the money provided he signed a legal contract saying he would pay her back in full. He immediately became furious and accused her of not trusting him.

“He acted all shocked and offended then went on about how I don’t trust him and his word. I told him that’s all I got and this was my one and only condition. He kept ranting about how I’m refusing to help and making the situation more difficult for him instead of cooperating,” she wrote.

“Insisted on a contract to be signed before he even pulls a penny and this morning when I told him this one more time, he blew up and said that we’re family and that I should be ashamed for involving courts and lawyers between family. he left the house and was so upset he hasn’t responded to any of my calls yet.”

Redditors felt like the husband was acting suspiciously.

“If you could return that much money asap, you wouldn’t need it in the first place,” a person said.

“I have a baaaaad feeling about this,” another wrote.

“I’m not usually one to resort to such drastic judgements but your marriage is in serious trouble,” a Redditor said.
