Rahul is a Mumbai boy, born and brought up in the city.

He studied music under Himanshu Manocha and entered various child talent competitions.

He studied at Mithibai College, same one where famous celebrities like Rani Mukherji, Shahid Kapoor, Boman Irani, Ajay Devgn, Ekta Kapoor and many others have studied.

Rahul was in SYJC (second year junior college) when he participated in Indian Idol.

He ended up becoming the second runner-up of the first Indian Idol, losing out to Abhishek Sawant.

In 2010, he performed for the famous Sankalp group for Navratri replacing the Navrati queen Falguni Pathak herself.

Rahul has been a part of many reality shows before Bigg Boss 14, apart from Indian Idol, like Jo Jeeta Wohi Superstar, Aaja Mahi Ve, Jhalak Dikhlaa Jaa 7, Music Ka Maha Muqqabla.

There were rumours that the singer was dating Alka Yagnik's daughter Syesha Kapoor. He later debunked the rumours and said they were just good friends.
