Jets' Little takes slapshot to head, leaves game vs. Devils

Winnipeg Jets forward Bryan Little suffered an injury after taking a slapshot from teammate Nikolaj Ehlers to side of his head in Tuesday’s game against the New Jersey Devils. He did not return.

The 31-year-old forward was down on the ice and bleeding before being taken off by Ehlers and a member of the Jets training staff.

Little already missed some time earlier this season with a concussion. Through the six games he has been able to play, he has two goals and five points.

After the 2-1 shootout loss for the Jets, head coach Paul Maurice gave a brief update on Little’s condition.

According to Maurice, the puck caught him more in the ear than anywhere else. He is still being evaluated and more information will come out in the upcoming days.

Little’s name was treading through the waters of trade rumours this summer. With the cap ceiling stagnant, the Jets had less room to sign their now-former restricted free agents Patrik Laine and Kyle Connor.

But the veteran that has five years left on his deal paying him just under $5.3-million per season is still with the team and has been performing well individually.

Amidst growing concern on the direction of the club, Little has still been able to provide offence in a deeper role than previously in his career.

The Jets are 8-7-1 on the season.
