Yahoo Finance Wolves edge past gutsy Chorley to reach FA Cup fifth round
A stunner from Vitinha was enough as Wolves edged past non-League Chorley to reach the FA Cup fifth round.
A first ever senior goal from 20-year-old settled the tie and knock the lowest-ranked team left in the competition.
Non-League Chorley fielded the same team that beat Derby as they sought to pull off another giant-killing.
The National League North side reached the fourth round for the first time in their history when they stunned a coronavirus-depleted Rams side a fortnight ago.
Former Bolton striker Connor Hall was looking to add another goal to his tally in the tie at Victory Park after strikes in the previous rounds against League sides Wigan, Peterborough and Derby.
Wolves made six changes from the side beaten by West Brom in their last outing with John Ruddy, Max Kilman, Ki-Jana Hoever, Rayan Ait-Nouri, Vitinha and Patrick Coutrone coming in.
Chorley made a positive start with Harry Cardwell leading a charge down the left to tee up Elliot Newby inside the first minute but his shot was comfortably saved by Ruddy.
Wolves settled and took the lead with 12 minutes gone as Vitinha unleashed a powerful shot from 35 yards that swerved in the air and flew through the grasp of Chorley goalkeeper Matt Urwin.
Chorley sensed they had nothing to lose and tried to up the tempo in the second half as Hall glanced a header at Ruddy and then volleyed over.
Andy Halls then brought a fine save out of Ruddy with a powerful header from a corner.
But it was not to be and Wolves will now face either Southampton or Arsenal in the fifth round.
