A woman has been arrested on suspicion of drink driving after a car ploughed into the front of a house and left a giant hole in the living room.

The Seat Leon crashed into the bungalow in Sussex after hitting a lamppost and driving across the lawn.

The 45-year-old woman was also arrested on suspicion of criminal damage recklessly endangering life.

Following the accident on Wednesday night at around 8.20pm, the woman who lives nearby, was taken to hospital as a precaution and later discharged, police said.

Officers took the driver into custody where she is still being questioned by officers.

Sussex Police said no injuries were reported following the incident.

Amanda Duffy, who was in the house at the time, said she was lucky to be alive.

She told the BBC: "She nearly cost myself and my son Ashley our lives. It's by the grace of God we're here."

A spokesman for the force said: "Police responded to a road traffic collision in Temple Grove, Burgess Hill at 8.20pm on Wednesday.
