Woman claims she found a bone-chilling item in her purse after a night out: 'A new thing for ... women to worry about'

A woman issued a warning after claiming she found a Tile tracker in her bag at the end of an evening spent at a restaurant.

In a post that has now been viewed more than 1 million times, TikTok user @sheridanellis told the story of how she allegedly discovered the tracking device just before she left a friend’s birthday party.

She said that she usually doesn’t carry a purse with her but decided to take one to this party because she was carrying decorations.

“At the end of the night, I’m cleaning my purse out, and I find this,” she said, brandishing a small, square device. “If you don’t know what this is, it’s a Tile.”

A Tile is a small tracking device that’s useful for people who have trouble remembering where they put their keys, purses and so on.

Users can then figure out where they left the item by finding its location on an app. If they are within a short range, the device makes a loud ringing sound.

The Tile is useful when it comes to finding a lost purse, but it also appears to have been part of a plan to track where @sheridanellis‘s purse — and the woman herself — was going.

“I don’t know how it got in my purse. I immediately took the battery out, don’t worry, but yeah… Check your purses and stay safe out there,” she said.

There’s a possibility that the Tile simply fell into her bag by mistake, but there’s also a chance it could have been planted by a stranger or unidentified person to track her location. A fellow TikTok user said, “It’s most likely someone you know.”

She said she did not let the police know because she wasn’t sure when the Tile landed in her bag, and she didn’t want to put the battery back in. She just wanted to make the video to warn others.

One commenter urged her to report the incident anyway.

“The police can definitely find out who purchased that and who downloaded the app registered to it. Go to the police,” they wrote. “That is very scary.”

Another assured her that Tiles work with phones using Bluetooth, so there’s no way for someone to track your location out of a certain range.

“Weird, but not dangerous,” a TikToker said.

Regardless, many users were spooked.

“Oh yay, a new thing for all of us women to worry about,” one user said.

“Why are men like this?” another wrote.

This incident appears to be the first of its kind in recent history, so it’s likely not some sort of stalking trend. Regardless, it’s not a bad idea to rifle through that purse before you go home after a night out.
