Woman slams mother-in-law over her ‘ridiculous’ birthday party plans: ‘Grown-ups should be able to compromise’

A woman and her mother-in-law are feuding over dueling birthday parties.

She asked Reddit’s “Am I the A******” forum for advice. Her son and mother-in-law share the same birthday. They both wanted to throw parties on the same day. However, each woman is convinced their party is the more important one.

Decode and demystify Gen Z's latest online slang terms with In The Know's new glossary.

“Mother-in-law (MIL) loves her birthday,” the Reddit poster said. “She kept joking when I was pregnant that if I went into labor on her birthday, I better hold him in. Well, karma, he was born on her birthday, and she was not pleased. MIL came to the hospital for about 10 minutes but said she had plans and left. This year, she is turning 50, and he is turning one. MIL said she is having a party that day, so I need to do his another weekend. I thought that was ridiculous because one of them is a little kid, and it isn’t her. I know technically we could do his in the afternoon and hers at night, but my in-laws throw crazy parties. Her 40th was like the size of a wedding.”

However, neither woman was willing to change the date of the party.

These vegan recipes have an almighty kick to them:

“I refused to move the date of his party,” she explained. “MIL got mad and said he won’t even remember. Father-in-law told me my son isn’t the end all be all, and she was born first. I told MIL she was being a crybaby and to build a bridge and get over it. I said he is a little kid, so his is more important than hers, and she can do her ridiculous pageant/birthday party another day (didn’t say that part out loud). MIL is now not talking to us but not changing the date. This means the family will go to her party, and I feel like she is being really immature. I have no regrets for what I said.”

Reddit users thought the daughter-in-law should be able to figure out a solution.

“Grown-ups should be able to compromise,” one user wrote.

“Nobody could find a compromise around times and dates? Grow up, everyone,” another said.

“You need to work together to come up with a solution,” a person commented.
