A “vile sexual predator” who raped an 83-year-old woman has been jailed after attacking her in her own home.

Keith Brown, 55, was sentenced to 10 years for the rape, which took place in Upton-on-Severn, Worcestershire early on 13 August.

Police said they used “every resource available”, including dogs, to track Brown, of Malvern, Worcestershire, and he pleaded guilty to the crime at Worcester Crown Court on 16 December.

Detective Inspector Tony Garner, of West Mercia Police, said afterwards: “This was a despicable offence on an elderly and defenceless victim.

“All those involved in the investigation worked tirelessly to quickly apprehend Brown and in doing so we have prevented further people potentially becoming a victim to him.”

He praised the 83-year-old woman as “extremely brave and courageous” and said he hoped the conviction and sentence “will provide some measure of closure”.

“It will also reassure a local community and act as a warning to anyone else considering offending in this manner that West Mercia Police will not rest until you are caught and brought to justice.”

Brown was also ordered to comply with a restraining order, preventing him from contacting the woman for life.
