World Series: Cody Bellinger drops elbow bumps for foot taps after blasting Game 1 homer

Cody Bellinger’s shoulder looks just fine.

The Los Angeles Dodgers center fielder launched a two-run home run off Tampa Bay Rays starter Tyler Glasnow in the fourth inning on Tuesday to post the first runs of the 2020 World Series.

Bellinger coming off shoulder injury

That was a no-doubter off of Bellinger’s bat that should quell any concerns about the status of his right shoulder, which he dislocated while celebrating the game-winning home run in NLCS Game 7 on Sunday.

The injury occurred after Bellinger bumped elbows with second baseman Kiké Hernández (0:31 below).

Bellinger: ‘It kind of hurt’

Bellinger later admitted to MLB Network that he popped his shoulder out.

“I’m good. I’m good,” Bellinger told MLB Network. “I hit Kiké’s shoulder a little too hard, and my shoulder popped out, so I had to go back in the training room. They popped it back in and I was ready to play some defense. It kind of hurt.”

Bellinger debuts new HR celebration

In a nod to the injury scare and presumably in the interest of injury prevention, Bellinger scrapped the elbow bump for foot taps with his teammates on Tuesday.

Newly crowned Los Angeles Lakers champion LeBron James appreciated the effort from his L.A. brethren.

It seems a wise decision — as long as Bellinger doesn’t trip.
