World of Warcraft: Shadowlands announces release date with story trailer
World of Warcraft: Shadowlands announced its release date with a trailer that tells you to go to Hell — literally.
WoW players have traveled all over Azeroth, to the dark cities of terrible ancient gods and even to different planets. On Nov. 23, their next adventure awaits in the Shadowlands, the Warcraft universe’s version of the underworld.
In the Shadowlands cinematic trailer, Sylvanas Windrunner shattered the Lich King’s Helm of Domination and tore open the veil that separates the realms of the living and the dead. The tortured Sylvanas seeks to end death itself in her mad gambit to control the Shadowlands and capture the soul of the planet-god Azeroth herself.
This latest story trailer showed off some of the major figures in the Shadowlands including the Jailer, the malevolent steward of the Maw, where only the most despicable souls end up after dying.
Other realms in the story trailer include Bastion for the righteous, Maldraxxus for those who were restless and unyielding life, Ardenweald for those who shared a special connection with nature and Revendreth for the bad souls who can still be redeemed through some painful penance. The new zones are also bustling with their own natives from the angelic kyrians to the vampiric venthyr.
But if you’re a veteran player, expect to reconnect with some familiar faces. Uther is a kyrian now and Garrosh Hellscream is being tortured in Revendreth for his sweet, sweet soul juice.
And you can even find Mankrik’s wife. Finally, after over a decade of begging, Barrens Chat has an answer!
Appropriately enough, the expansion pack’s Nov. 23 launch date coincides with the original World of Warcraft’s release back in 2004.

Blizzard also confirmed that the pre-patch Scourge invasion event will go live on Nov. 10. If you were looking for a good time to resubscribe, then Nov. 9 is a good window. The Scourge event will set the stage for Shadowlands and also provide a bunch of catch-up content for your characters to be geared and ready.
World of Warcraft: Shadowlands will release on Nov. 23 at 6 p.m. EST.
