Yahoo Finance Yes, there is now a ‘Ratatouille’ musical thanks to TikTok
Quite a few Disney musicals have made it to the Broadway stage — “Aladdin,” “Frozen,” “Mary Poppins” and the list goes on. However, as far as Gen Zers are concerned, all of those highly acclaimed shows pale in comparison to the Disney adaptation currently going viral on TikTok: “Ratatouille the Musical.”
“Ratatouille the Musical” isn’t real the way “Rent” or “The Phantom of the Opera” is real. You can’t buy a ticket and catch an 8 p.m. show at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre. “Ratatouille the Musical” is merely a concept that continues to be built upon by Theatre TikTok, to the point that it now has music, lyrics and choreographed dance moves.
“Ratatouille the Musical” is the brainchild of 26-year-old New Yorker Em Jaccs. On Aug. 10, she posted a soundbite of herself singing her original song “Ode to Remy,” which snowballed into a full-fledged musical.

In an interview with BroadwayWorld, Jaccs explained that she was inspired to write “Ode to Remy” in quarantine when she was longing to be at Disney World.
“Late into the quarantine in August, I felt a particular longing for my favorite place on earth, Disney World,” she said. “So I had been reading an article about the new ‘Ratatouille’ ride in Epcot. Using the article as inspiration, I just began singing this on-the-spot song around my house about Remy. I found it particularly catchy and couldn’t get it out of my mind, so I decided to post a funny slideshow compilation of Remy with my song in the background.”

Jaccs credits many creators for the success of her silly song, but she’s especially fond of arranger danieljmertzlufft, who turned “Ode to Remy” into “a spellbinding musical theater version with instrumental and choir voices.”
“Of course it all started with danieljmertzlufft’s musical theater interpretation that actually made me shed a tear,” she said. “This trend has definitely been a group effort.”
Since Jaccs uploaded her song, thousands of fellow theater kids have created accompanying dance numbers and written other musical numbers about other characters in the film, turning the idea into a viral phenomenon. Some users have even speculated how the staging might work. At this point, it wouldn’t be all that difficult for someone to create an actual musical out of all the Ratatouille content on TikTok alone.

“One of the first original song ideas I saw came from RJIsSpiraling’s Sondheim-esque ‘Anyone Can Cook,'” Jaccs said. “It was so emotional and inspirational that I was hooked! Since that first one, I now see tons of videos per day with new creative Ratatouille musical songs of all different styles.”
On Oct. 25, a TikTok user actually created an account specifically to organize all the content creators contributing to “Ratatouille the Musical.” Their first video is a call for any “musical theater nerds” who are interested in turning “Ratatouille the Musical” into a reality.
