YouTube Star Marina Joyce Is Safe Say Police

A YouTube star's cryptic message sparked panic among her fans - who called police because they thought she had been kidnapped.

Fans of fashion vlogger Marina Joyce, 19, say they heard her say "help me" in a recent video which showed her trying on new clothes.

Others pointed out that she seemed wide-eyed and nervous during the video, which appeared to have been filmed in a back garden.

The hashtag #savemarinajoyce started trending worldwide, because her fans feared she had been kidnapped or was being forced to make the videos against her will.

A fan even wrote a lengthy post with a detailed theory that Ms Joyce was at risk of harm - it was read more than 70,000 times in 24 hours.

Twitter users urged police to intervene after she invited her 136,000 Twitter followers to meet her at Bethnal Green in the early hours of the morning.

Some fans had suggested that it could be bait for an attack.

One said: "Please do not go to Marina's meet up! Stay well clear and do not got to this meet up. Let police handle this."

But in the early hours of Wednesday morning the Met Police tweeted: "Officers have visited YouTube user Marina Joyce. She is safe and well."

Ms Joyce later tweeted: "Im TOTALLY fine guys, i am feeling very good today and its actually so heartwarming to see so many people care about me."

Ms Joyce has more than 150,000 followers on Twitter and around 700,000 subscribers to her YouTube channel.

She lives in London, and joined YouTube in 2010. She posts videos every Thursday and is regarded as a minor YouTube celebrity.
