Former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh was arrested on Sunday in Haryana’s Hisar district over his casteist remarks against Yuzvendra Chahal. However, he was immediately released on bail after the orders of the High Court.
The 39-year old in a live chat with Rohit Sharma last year was accused of making derogatory remarks against the scheduled castes, targeting Chahal. Dalit rights activist Rajat Kalsan filed a case against him. The case was registered under Section 3 of the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, among others, on the complaint of Rajat Kansal, a Dalit rights activist.
“Yuvraj Singh came to Hansi on Saturday and we made a formal arrest. He was released on bail bond after a few hours,” said DSP (Hansi) Vinod Shankar.
The activist, Rajat Kalsan, said, “On October 6, the police was asked to include Yuvraj Singh in the probe. We have learned that yesterday, Yuvraj Singh surrendered before the police in Hisar, he was questioned for two to three hours and then arrested. He was then released on bail bonds.”
If I have unintentionally hurt anybody’s sentiments, I would like to express regret for the same: Yuvraj Singh
Last year after the incident, Yuvraj Singh took to Twitter to express regret and apologized for his statements. Yuvraj had made the remark when talking about India leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal’s TikTok videos.
“This is to clarify I have never believed in any kind of disparity. Be it on the basis of caste, color, creed, or gender. I have given and continue to spend my life for the welfare of people. Believe in the dignity of life and respect each individual without exception,” Yuvraj Singh said in his post.
“I understand that while I was having a conversation with my friends, I was misunderstood, which was unwarranted. However, as a responsible Indian, I want to say that if I have unintentionally hurt anybody’s sentiments or feelings. I would like to express regret for the same.” he added
