Zack Snyder Finally Breaks His Silence on Henry Cavill's CGI Moustache
Justice League director Zack Snyder has finally shared his thoughts on the CGI removal of Henry Cavill's moustache.
It dates back to a time when Justice League was filming reshoots and Cavill had an epic moustache for another role in Mission: Impossible – Fallout. At the time, it's thought that Paramount wouldn't let Cavill shave off the moustache, so Warner Bros had to get creative.
The only thing they could do was create a dodgy CGI effect in post-production that removed Cavill's facial hair.
Speaking to MTV News, Snyder has commented on the CGI removal of Cavill's moustache in Justice League, explaining that he's only seen it in online.
Snyder said: "I've only seen it in memes, you know, it was funny, because you know, part of me is happy that we were able to have that not be the total legacy of the hard work that he had done in the last 10 years.
"It's sad to think that, that would've been the last view that people had of Superman was that, whatever that is."
When Cavill finally shaved off the moustache, he posted a hilarious video on Instagram, paying tribute to his moustache and assured his followers that it was shaved but not forgotten.
"Hello, don't be alarmed. It's me, Henry Cavill. Sometimes superhero and former secret agent. But now, completely clean-shaven. I know, it's hard to recognise me without KingStache. Sometimes I even have trouble recognising myself," Cavill said in the video.
"It's hard for me to admit: this is not CGI. He's really gone. I can tell you this though, I will remember him, always."
The end of the video features a montage of pictures in which Cavill still had his moustache – and one of the CGI removal.
