Zack Snyder's Army of the Dead has received mostly positive reactions ahead of its release on Netflix.

Set during a zombie apocalypse (and featuring an undead tiger!), it centres on a group of mercenaries who break quarantine to venture into an infested Las Vegas and pull off "the greatest heist ever attempted".

Guardians of the Galaxy's Dave Bautista, Power's Ana de la Reguera and Omari Hardwick, Theo Rossi (Sons of Anarchy), comedian Tig Notaro, Ella Purnell (Belgravia), Matthias Schweighöfer (You Are Wanted), Westworld's Hiroyuki Sanada and Garret Dillahunt (Fear the Walking Dead) star.

"Zack Snyder's #ArmyOfTheDead is unquestionably a Zack Snyder zombie movie, for better and for worse," Digital Spy's Ian Sandwell wrote on Twitter. "Loads of strong ideas, a fair few questionable ideas, terrific gore and an overlong runtime. Great cast too."

Collider's Vinnie Mancuso shared similar sentiments about the fact that the movie is two-and-a-half hours long but enjoyed it nonetheless, tweeting: "You absolutely feel the runtime toward the end but honestly, #ArmyOfTheDead rips. Just let Zack Snyder keep making zombie movies!"

Meanwhile, the same publication's Perri Nemiroff shared that she "fell mighty hard for the whole ensemble".

Elsewhere, Fangoria's Phil Nobile Jr. said: "Army of the Dead: Zack Snyder is having an absolute blast, delivering a jaw dropping/jaw-removing) amount of slo-mo bloodshed. The gore and mayhem on display is lovingly captured and, more importantly, gleefully faceted within the film."

Meanwhile Observer's Brandon Katz was a little less enthusiastic, admitting that he found himself "wanting more" from the action-horror.

"It's well cast and often funny," he added. "But despite blending the heist/zombie genres, there's not much newness added to either. One or two fresh setpieces amid familiar blood n gore, but outside of that, you've seen it more or less."
