13 Great Cars That Nobody Bought in 2015

The Nissan Juke looks like a crossover with a crocodile-eyed sports car glued to its top, but somehow, we love its goofy styling. It has surprisingly little body roll and grips well in the twisties. Nissan designed the Juke to compete with the Mini Cooper. However, nearly every Mini variant outsold the Juke last year.

It's not a full-sized SUV and it's not a minivan, either. It's an absurdly practical people-and-cargo-mover that's packaged in this cool, boxy shape. You can get it with either the 3.5-liter V6 with 287 hp, or the much more exciting 3.5-liter EcoBoost engine with 365 hp. Perhaps its looks were too polarizing, because while the Flex's sales wavered in 2015, Ford sold 249,251 Explorers during the same period.

If you wanted a sporty and affordable sedan, the Regal is a great option. You can even get it with all-wheel drive or a stick shift. It looks good, too: Handsome and sleek, with no design elements that are too controversial. Yet the sportier, rear-wheel-drive Cadillac ATS still saw better sales in 2015.

The 2-Series is the replacement for the 1-Series. It's an attractive, German coupe, so what's not to love? Especially if you opted for the very sporty M235i. However, the larger 4-Series far outsold the 2-Series, so you'd have a pretty unique car on your hands if you got one.

Folks like us absolutely love the Scion FR-S (and it's twin, the Subaru BR-Z), but it has never been a major market success. While Scion sold more than twice as many of the rear-drive coupe in 2015 compared to Subaru, its sales figures still weren't astronomical. Scion's sales performance will certainly plummet in 2016, seeing as Toyota is killing off the brand, but the FR-S will live on with a Toyota badge.

The CC is the sleeker version of the Passat. It has great, elegant-looking proportions and comes with either a six-speed dual-clutch transmission or a six-speed manual. Engines include either a four-cylinder or a six-cylinder option. But the CC's looks couldn't quite bridge the $12,000 premium over the regular Passat, and that showed: Volkswagen sold 78,207 Passats last year.

What's wrong with the BR-Z? Nothing, if you ask us—except maybe a small horsepower deficit. But most Subaru customers head to the brand's dealerships seeking out practical, roomy, all-wheel-drive family vehicles. The small, rear-drive BR-Z is a bit of a hard sell when you're looking for a family hauler, and the sales numbers show that.

We love the F-Type to an extent that is nearly obsessive. It truly may be the most beautiful car on sale today, and in F-Type R trim it packs a mean punch. But it's a sports car in the truest sense, meaning you'll probably need a second vehicle for your passenger or cargo carrying needs. In a world awash with SUVs and crossovers, an F-Type is a hard sell, especially at a starting price of more than $60,000. The plus side? If you own one, you're a member of a very exclusive club.

For too long, Porsche prevented the Cayman from competing with the 911, but with the arrival of the GT4, the Cayman lineup now has a properly fast car to carve the track with. Unfortunately, all those years living in the 911's shadow haven't helped the mid-engine coupe: Porsche sold nearly three times as many 911s as Caymans in 2015.

The Porsche Boxster, soon to be the Porsche 718 Boxster, has always been the most affordable Porsche. But because the 911 offers more power and performance, more people flocked to them. To our line of thinking, that rarity just makes your Boxster or Boxster Spyder all the more special.

If you've ever looked at a Corvette and said, "Man, that thing needs four doors," then the SS is the answer. It fills the gap left by the beloved, departed Pontiac G8, with 415 all-American horsepower and an available six-speed stick. It makes for an excellent sleeper for some fun between dropping the kids off at school and bringing them home again, but sadly, more people prefer the bland comfort of the Chevy Malibu.

It's to be expected that Nissan's current flagship car has low sales figures. But that doesn't mean it should. With a twin-turbocharged V6 engine that sounds like a fighter jet taking off, the GT-R is a missile. Especially if you get the GT-R Nismo. We'd love to see more of these on the road. If you get one, you'd be doing a service to humanity.

There's no getting around it: The Viper's sales figures are terrible. Despite setting record lap times at 13 racetracks, it was still far outsold by the Mercedes-AMG GT. Unfortunately, Dodge just can't afford to keep making the Viper, and will end its production soon. So get one now while you still can.
