But the effort was unable to dislodge Maduro and Venezuela on Sunday will choose a new parliament in an election that most of the opposition is boycotting - meaning the terms of legislators currently in office will expire on Jan. 5.

France's Stéphanie Frappart will become the first woman to referee a men's Champions League match on Wednesday when Juventus host Dynamo Kiev in Turin, European football's governing body UEFA confirmed on Sunday. The 36-year-old has already made history as the first woman to referee in the French top flight, and took charge of the 2019 UEFA Super Cup final between Liverpool and Chelsea. She also made her Europa League debut in October.It is the first time that a woman has been assigned to referee a game in Europe's most prestigious club competition.Italian giants Juventus host Ukrainian side Dynamo in Group G at the Allianz Stadium. Rafer Johnson, who won the decathlon at the 1960 Rome Olympics and helped subdue Robert F. Kennedy’s assassin in 1968, died Wednesday. Johnson was among the world’s greatest athletes from 1955 through his Olympic triumph in 1960, winning a national decathlon championship in 1956 and a silver medal at the Melbourne Olympics that same year.
