Yahoo Finance Cash crown: New banknotes vie for title of prettiest in your pocketbook
If the uproar over Britain's new £5 note is any indication, people still care about their currency despite the growing popularity of cashless payments.
And currency connoisseurs will surely be tuning in as the International Bank Note Society decides what new bill is prettiest in your pocketbook this year.
The nomination process for the IBNS' annual design contest is open to all members of the Washington, D.C.-based organization.
Any banknote that has been introduced into general circulation in the 2016 calendar year and the IBNS' judges will assess them based on their security features and artists merit.
Last year's cash crown went to a re-released $50 note from Trinidad and Tobago.
Nominations for the 2016 contest are open until Jan. 31, 2017, but click through the gallery to see nine notes that are already in the running.
