The Canary Islands are a good place to go if you're looking for out-of-season sun. The necessities will set you back £71.13 here.

If you're holidaying in Prague this year, it'll cost on average £63.02 per day to get your hands on the holiday essentials. Interestingly, this is about £6 more expensive than this same survey from 2019.

A surprising addition to the list, your eight essentials would set you back £67.01 in Orlando, USA.

Sliema in Malta has only made it onto the list for the first time back in 2020, making 2022 the third time we've seen Sliema on the list. All your necessary bits and bobs - a bottle of water and glass of wine included - would come in at £65.35

Not only is sunny Madeira a great spot for a little break, it's also firmly in the top 10 at number eight of the cheapest holiday destinations for 2022 at £64.05 for your eight essentials.

Mombasa in Kenya came in at number seven on the cheapest destinations to go on holiday this year, at £61.30 to cover your fundamental holiday needs.

Making up the top five, you'd need £59.56 to cover the holiday essentials for two in Costa del Sol.

Getting your hands on a meal for two, a cup of coffee, a bottle of beer, a Coca-Cola, a glass of wine, a bottle of water, sun cream and insect repellent would cost £56.44 on average in Pathos - a price drop of more than 15% year on year.

In Cape Town, your eight essentials would cost you on average £53.23. Which is down 1.6% on last year, and makes Cape Town the best value long haul destination.

Last year's winner Sunny Beach in Bulgaria is the Post Office's second cheapest holiday destination for 2022. Sunny Beach has been top of the list for a number of years, thanks to its sunny weather and affordable party atmosphere.

Taking the top spot for the first time, you'd need £26.13 for your eight holiday essentials if you're going to Marmaris in Turkey this summer.

And just in case the Post Office insider info wasn't enough, we've got a few suggestions of our own for you.

If you're after some pocket-friendly sight-seeing, then Bolivia is the place to go (obviously you just need the flights to get there!). Check out the salt flats, the floating islands, or sample some of the inexpensive but delicious street food. Plus, if you're willing to travel around by bus, you'll save yourself some serious dough. (Hot tip: fly into Santa Cruz for cheaper international flights!)

Tucked away in Central America, Belize has everything. Beautiful beaches, jungles, and the world's second-longest barrier reef. Snorkelling, anyone? Of course, there are the usual wallet-cringing resorts scattered around, but cheaper options are around, and the average price of a coffee, evening meal, and beer would set you back around £14, according to The Times Travel.

Marrakech's more mellow and affordable cousin, Fez should definitely be on you radar if you want to have an authentic Moroccan holiday at a fraction of the price.
