Global education group Pearson raised its full-year profit forecast on Wednesday in a boost to management efforts to restructure the business and expand into areas including workforce training, qualifications and assessment. The British company has endured a turbulent pandemic, lifted by online learning demand and stymied in October when a surge of the Omicron variant and a tight U.S. labour market deterred students from enrolling at community colleges. Under the leadership of former Disney executive Andy Bird it has sought to broaden its approach beyond traditional education outlets, selling directly to consumers via its Pearson+ app and to businesses looking to train staff.

(Reuters) -European shares closed at a one-week low on Tuesday, with tech stocks losing the most as a rise in short-term U.S. Treasury yields reflected increased expectations for an interest rate hike by the Federal Reserve as soon as March. Tech stocks declined 2.2%, the most among their peers, as they resumed a losing spree that began at the start of the year. Two-year Treasury yields , which track short-term rate expectations in the United States, crossed 1% for the first time since February 2020.

The mine has faced opposition from environmental activists and local communities over concerns of environmental damage, forcing the local municipality last year to scrap a plan to allocate land for the facility. The Balkan nation will decide whether Rio can proceed with developing the mine after a general election in April, its prime minister told Reuters earlier this month.

Europe's largest technology company by market capitalisation said that the Jan. 3 fire had damaged part of one building and caused smoke damage at a second. ASML Chief Executive Peter Wennink said "the expected impact of the fire in part of a building at our Berlin site is included" in the 2022 growth forecast.
