From smoked salmon to smartphones, from Brussels sprouts to online clothes, the cost of Christmas is on the up and up.

Analysts report all aspects of preparing for the big day are increasing, driven by a combination of Brexit anxieties, wobbling sterling and general inflationary pressures.
