Not every country is welcoming to foreigners, but these 16 offer the best experience, prospects for families and overall economic conditions.

The rankings were released in a report by HSBC earlier this week that anaylzed the best places to live for expats.

The bank enlisted YouGov to survey nearly 27,000 expats from 190 countries and territories.

For each category, HSBC scored a country on a scale starting at zero, with the average deciding its overall ranking.

The list features many mainstays on rankings that assess quality of life, but there’s also some surprises.
