Top 20 alternative landmarks to visit around the world

A travel company has identified the world’s top 20 “alternative” landmarks to travel to.

We’ve all heard a lot about popular sights such as the Eiffel Tower, the Taj Mahal and Statue of Liberty.

But this list offers fresh inspiration for incredible sights you might want to base your holidays around visiting, detailing those buildings, natural sites and attractions you might not have known existed.

It was compiled based on a survey of 1,000 travellers conducted by Travelzoo UK, an online hub for travel and entertainment deals.

Additions include the CN Tower in Toronto, Canada, which features a 360 degree views of the city, and the Minack Theatre, an open-air destination carved into a granite cliff in Portcurno, Cornwall here in the UK.

There’s also Kinkaku-Ji Temple in Kyoto, Japan, a golf-leaf covered structure first built in 1397, and Uxmal, an ancient Mayan city in Mexico.
