Hundreds of U.S. National Guard members were seen getting some rest ahead of what is expected to be a tumultuous day in Washington, D.C.
On Wednesday, Jan. 13, The House of Representatives is pursuing an article of impeachment against President Donald Trump for his role in inciting an angry mob to storm the Capitol last week. In the early hours of Wednesday morning, National Guard members were seen sleeping on the floor in hallways, stairwells and concourses.
"The short answer is duty and resilience. It is not out of the ordinary for soldiers and airmen, especially for MP and security forces units to sleep when and wherever possible to maintain vigilance at their posts," National Guard Bureau spokesman Air Force Maj. Matt Murphy told Connecting Vets Wednesday morning, when asked why they were sleeping in the building.
Up to 15,000 units have been approved for use at the Capitol on Wednesday.
