The California Gold Rush town of Placerville will change its logo to remove a noose that stems from its mid-19th century reputation as “Hangtown” following lynchings of criminal suspects by mobs of miners. The City Council voted Tuesday night to remove the noose after listening to emotional comment from residents, CBS 13 Sacramento reported. The signs and symbols of Hangtown are commonplace in Placerville, the El Dorado County seat in the western foothills of the Sierra Nevada about two hours northeast of San Francisco.

Vanessa Kirby was too busy having her hair dyed to pay attention to her Oscar nod. The Crown star was busy getting primped on the set of Mission: Impossible 7 when the Academy Awards nominations were announced last month - and had no idea she was among the Best Actress picks for her role in Pieces of a Woman.During an appearance on Live with Kelly and Ryan on Tuesday, Vanessa recalled how she was chatting away to her longtime hairstylist, Kirsten, when she got a text from a crewmember. "I was actually having my hair dyed for Mission: Impossible in the make-up trailer... and God, it was so surreal," she remembered. "The cinematographer of the movie sent me a message saying, 'Are you watching?' I went, 'Watching what?... I'm in the make-up trailer having my hair dyed.'" "He said, 'You're not watching the nominations?' I said, 'Which nominations?' And then he told me the news. "I gasped so loudly that poor Kirsten... thought someone had died because I was so shocked. Then she cried and I cried a little bit. It was very emotional and so surreal."

Lupita Nyong'o has urged fans to tune into a new Netflix special honouring the life and career of Chadwick Boseman. The actor lost his secret battle with cancer last summer, and on Saturday, Netflix officials will debut Chadwick Boseman: Portrait of an Artist, which features his famous friends and collaborators reflecting on his influence and legacy. A trailer for the project was released on Tuesday, and now Lupita, who worked closely with Chadwick on Marvel blockbuster Black Panther, has encouraged her Twitter followers to tune in and remember the pal she misses "every day". After reposting the Netflix promo, she wrote, "Mark your calendars for Saturday. Chadwick was an artistic surgeon of character. (And I miss him every day.)" In the trailer, the late actor's Ma Rainey's Black Bottom co-star, Viola Davis, shared, "You know you have to step up when you're in his presence. "He's looking at your work and he's like, really hyper-focused on the craft - on the process. That's Chad." "He just had this weight. This aura," remembered Spike Lee, who directed Chadwick in 2020's Da 5 Bloods, which proved to be one of the actor's final films. Denzel Washington, Phylicia Rashad, George C. Wolfe, and Danai Gurira are just some of the other stars to feature in the special, which will only be available for streaming for 30 days. The news of the TV tribute comes ahead of the 2021 Academy Awards on 25 April, when Chadwick is among the favourites to posthumously take home the Best Actor Oscar for Ma Rainey's Black Bottom.
Colton Underwood has come out as a gay man.On Wednesday, the former The Bachelor personality appeared on Good Morning America (GMA) where he opened up in an emotional sit-down interview with Robin Roberts. Underwood fronted season 23 of the dating show in 2019, ultimately giving his final rose to contestant Cassie Randolph.During the conversation, titled Colton Underwood: In His Own Words, the reality TV star revealed he "came to terms" with his sexuality earlier this year."I've ran from myself for a long time. I've hated myself for a long time, and I'm gay. I came to terms with that earlier this year and trying to process it," he said. "I'm emotional, but in such a good happy positive way. I'm happiest and healthiest I've ever been in my life."Explaining why he had now chosen to reveal the news, Underwood admitted he knew he was "different since the age of six" and had got "into a place for me in personal life that was dark and bad". "I think overall the reason why now, is because I got to place that I don't think I was ever going to share this. I think I would rather die than say I'm gay," the 29-year-old continued.Underwood, who was dubbed the "virgin Bachelor" throughout his time on the show, said he still loved Randolph and wanted to apologise "for any pain and emotional stress I caused".He added: "I wish that it wouldn't have happened the way that it did. I wish that I had been courageous enough to fix myself before I broke anybody else."Underwood and Randolph dated until announcing their split in May 2020.That September, Randolph filed a restraining order against Underwood, alleging Domestic Violence Prevention as the reason for her request. In November, days before a court hearing was set to take place to extend the order, Randolph asked the judge overseeing the case to dismiss her protective order with prejudice, preventing her from refiling the petition in the future.

Man City’s Champions League quarter-final clash with Borussia Dortmund is perfectly poised heading into tonight’s second leg at the Westfalenstadion. Phil Foden’s late goal earned City a 2-1 win at the Etihad last week, but Marco Reus’ away goal means Dortmund are well in the game as both sides look to set up a semi-final meeting with PSG, who knocked out holders Bayern Munich last night. Despite their relative dominance of English football in recent years, City have not been beyond this stage of the competition since doing so for the first time in 2016, and have never reached a final.
