    In 'Merger talks':

Merger would create new leader in British mobile market
Vodafone in talks about creating a 51%-49% joint venture
Deal structured using debt, with no cash consideration
    Vodafone shares rise 2%
LONDON, Oct 3 (Reuters) - Vodafone (VOD.L) is in talks with CK Hutchison (0001.HK) about merging their businesses in Britain to create a market leading mobile network that could accelerate the roll-out of 5G services and expand broadband availability.

Vodafone said on Monday it would own 51% and Hutchison 49% under the deal being discussed, with the stakes achieved by adjusting ownership of debt rather than exchanging any cash.

What has VOD become for LONG-TERM shareholders, but an utter failure. IMO. A deteriorating income play. This has been a dream for the shorts…

Can any other long term shareholder tell me if we gained anything when VOD sold their 45% interest in Verizon?

every British company I have invested in is not a buy and hold. Flipping them on regular basis - buying low and selling higher and rinsing and repeating while collecting divs. I just can't understand how a country that kicked out the woke europeans can't figure out how to make profits. Perhaps they are just slightly ahead of the US in the downslide and failing of an empire.

    Another 'Whale' BUYS:
LONDON (Reuters) - "French billionaire telecoms executive Xavier Niel, the founder and majority owner of Iliad, has bought a 2.5% stake in Britain's Vodafone through an investment vehicle.
The vehicle - Atlas Investissement - said Vodafone was an "attractive investment opportunity, as per the quality of its assets portfolio and the solid underlying trends in the global telecommunications sector".

It said it was supportive of Vodafone's publicly-stated intention to pursue consolidation opportunities, as well as its efforts in infrastructure separation".

On the last quarterly conference call Nick Reed declined to answer a question about what's likely to happen with the tower business in detail because a lot was happening behind the scenes, but did say that they want to do the right thing for the shareholders and there was a lot of interest. I would think that this is likely to be some sort of a catalyst when it's resolved. It's surprising that the Hungarian business sale didn't even slow down the share price decline, since it was a very good deal. One would think the stock should have popped a percent or two on the news.
