Federal officials have initiated a criminal investigation into PG&E Corp.’s potential role in starting California’s largest wildfire of the year.

On Sept. 24, the US Forest Service removed one of the utility’s transmission poles from the site in Placer County where the Mosquito fire started, PG&E said Monday in a filing. USFS didn’t immediately respond to inquiries about the probe.

The investigation marks a significant setback in PG&E’s efforts to move past its troubled history with fires. The company was charged with manslaughter last year in connection with a 2020 blaze that killed four people, and was driven into bankruptcy for its role in the 2018 Camp Fire that destroyed the town of Paradise.

While the investigation is negative for the company, the actual financial impact of the fire may not be significant, according to Guggenheim Securities.

“While it is one of the biggest fires of 2022, the damage estimates remain below insurance thresholds,” analysts led by Shahriar Pourreza wrote in a research note Monday.

The fire has charred almost 77,000 acres and destroyed 78 structures since it began in the drought-parched Sierra Nevada foothills east of Sacramento. As of Monday, the fire was 85% contained.

Nearly guaranteed up tomorrow. Fire fund rarely sells on Fridays, street oversold on non-news, shorts to vacate position before weekend. Hence tomorrow will be a recovery day. Let's see how my prediction comes out. Will be near 13.50 tomorrow.

I don't wanna say I told ya so... But yes, as expected PCG came back to S&P 500 index and it's going up. The same will happen when the dividend is reinstated. Just hold to it and you will be good. Weak hands folding Friday are regretting their decision

Where there is spark there is a fire but in Mosquito where is the spark? No downed line, no vegetation hitting the lines just because the line tripped don't mean anything, With EPSS setting there is hundreds of line tripping all over the place. Market is saying PCG is not responsible. We have to wait and see what Calfire says..

Anyone realize when CA switches to electric automobiles how much electric power they will need? So when you charge your cars at night at home the whole block will need more power and you will shut down your AC's and house power. Now what? Better get a Generac but it runs on fossil fuels. So were back to square one burning fuel for electric power.

Also, PCG I here is install there own charging 7-11's?...Stocks going up big time.

Cal fire said it was most likely a lightening strike and no indication that Pg&e equipment started the fire.

"Sept 20 (Reuters) - A fire outbreak at PG&E Corp's(PCG) energy storage facility on Tuesday that uses battery packs made by Tesla Inc(TSLA) has shut down part of Highway 1 in California.

This came about a year after another fire broke out in a Tesla's "Megapack" battery unit in Australia during testing of one of the world's biggest energy storage projects.

Power producer PG&E(PCG) said it was working with firefighters to stop the fire from spreading at the California facility, which is one of the biggest utility-owned, lithium-ion battery energy storage systems in the world. The incident has caused no electrical outage for customers, it added.

The electric utilities company said upon detecting the issue the safety systems automatically disconnected the battery storage facility from the electrical grid and that no onsite personnel was injured due to the fire.

Tesla was not immediately available for comment.
Tesla generates most of its revenue from its electric car business, but CEO Elon Musk pledged to grow its solar energy and battery storage business to roughly same size as its car business for the long-term. Tesla last year broke ground on its factory in Lathrop, California, to produce its large-scale, utility storage battery unit Megapack.

California's Department of Transportation said a part of the highway was closed due to the battery fire and advised motorists to take an alternate route.

PG&E (PCG) in April announced the commissioning of its 182.5-megawatt (MW) Tesla Megapack battery energy storage system (BESS) - known as the Elkhorn Battery - located at its Moss Landing electric substation in Monterey County.

PG&E (PCG) said batteries are charged when energy demand is low or when solar production is high and then provide additional capacity by sending that reserved power to the grid as demand grows."

No more fires for at least 2 weeks. Here's why: "The coastal range looks to get 2 to 3 inches of rain from this [Sunday-Wednesday] event while the valley should end up with at least an inch with possible higher amounts up to around 1.75 inches. Currently the foothills and mountains are slatted to receive 1 to 2 inches of rainfall."

So PCG should hit 14 during the next 2 weeks, even if the Dow and S&P 500 are down, unless the Fire Victims Trust sells a huge chunk of shares as the share price approaches 14.

More fire victims trust sales yesterday. According to my records they’ve sold 75% of the stock , so that’s great news.
  • L
Extremely bullish PCG right now. Not only volume has been picking up in the last days and the SP increasing, as the SP is up today in a very bad day on markets. Something is up

I'm here and haven't commented in quite a few months. I'm here to say that if you stay off these negative message boards....your PCG shares will grow into beautiful gains. I'm a shareholder at $8 per share and up up up and away!

Why is PCG up in the AH. All trades after 5.15 are over 13. This is not a few shares to pop the share prices. There are several hundred trades. Something is up.

The fees the fire victim fund charges (payments to administers) has been a bone of contention for some time. Their secretiveness prompted the state to demand answers to questions, which they were compelled to publish on September 6th. Strangely, it is censored in two places, being ATTORNEY FEES PAID. Huh.
