Italy's government will monitor commitments made by Euronext when it acquired the Milan bourse, Industry Minister Adolfo Urso said on Wednesday after meeting unions who staged a historic strike at the stock exchange. The protest was held last week after unions accused Euronext of "constant, systematic and overall disinvestment from Italy". Euronext responded by saying it had created more than 100 jobs in Italy, and that the country was an important part of its expansion plans.
MILAN (Reuters) -Owner Euronext expects business as usual when trade unions at the Milan stock exchange hold an historic strike in the last two hours of the working day on Thursday. Italian banking sector trade unions last week announced the first ever strike at Borsa Italiana, the Milan exchange, accusing Euronext of "constant, systematic and overall disinvestment from Italy". "We don't want to harm the country or the companies involved," said Sergio Castoldi from Fabi, one of the unions behind the action.
London Tunnels has announced plans to list on the Euronext in Amsterdam in the latest blow to the London Stock Exchange.
