The decision by index compiler MSCI to rejig the way it assesses China A-shares increases the likelihood of mainland-listed stocks being included in its closely tracked emerging market index. MSCI has narrowed its focus on stocks that trade on China's two main trading links with Hong Kong - the Shanghai-Hong Kong Stock Connect and the newer Shenzhen-Hong Kong Stock Connect - and that could have a significant impact if A-shares are given the tick of approval in June. Inclusion would provide a major boost to market liquidity, but more importantly, stock prices.
