Spain's Aena sees 2023 passenger traffic back to normal after booking profit again

Spanish airport operator Aena said on Tuesday it expects passenger traffic to return to pre-pandemic levels this year after it booked a net profit in 2022, leaving the losses caused by the pandemic behind. Aena posted a net profit of 901.5 million euros ($954.51 million) in 2022, compared with a loss of 475.4 million euros in 2021.

Spain's Aena sees passenger numbers topping pre-pandemic level in 2024

Spanish airport operator Aena raised its 2022 passenger traffic forecast on Wednesday and said it expected numbers to surpass pre-pandemic levels in 2024. Aena expects 2023 traffic to reach 92% of the 275 million passengers registered in 2019, and to keep rising to reach 300 million in 2026. Lucena said passenger traffic was recovering faster than elsewhere in Europe as Spain had fewer staff issues since local labour regulations helped the company to keep its workers during the pandemic.

Spain's Aena says passenger traffic soars, costs too

Spanish airport operator Aena said on Wednesday it expects a return to pre-pandemic levels of traffic this month, although profitability is lagging as revenues rise more slowly than passenger numbers and energy prices have driven up costs. The company estimated that passenger traffic in Spain will have returned to the 2019 level in October and it said it expects continued momentum as airlines offer 5.3% more seats this winter than in 2019-2020. Aena expects overall traffic in 2022 will be higher than its prior forecast of 85% of 2019 traffic volume.

Spanish airport group Aena warns rebound in passenger traffic may not last

MADRID (Reuters) -Spanish airport operator Aena has warned it does not expect a recent sharp recovery in passenger numbers to be sustained due to the tough economic environment, sending its shares to their lowest in nearly two years. Aena said that even though revenue soared thanks to rising aircraft traffic, its expenses rose 40% during the half year to 1 billion euros, largely due to higher energy bills. In July, passenger traffic at Aena's airports were at 90% of pre-pandemic levels, but the company said it did not expect that to last given the economic outlook, Chief Financial Officer Jose Leo told a conference call with analysts.
