With the new year turned, mall management at Raleigh’s Crabtree Valley Mall has confirmed several big store changes coming in 2017, including an expansion and relocation of the mall’s popular Apple store (AAPL). The Apple store will be moved to a new spot closer to the Belk department stores, a space currently home to Gap and Gap Kids, says mall spokesman Brian Asbill. “That will be the largest Apple store presence in the market,” he says.
This week, both Sears (SHLD) and Macy’s (M) announced they would close stores across the country. On Wednesday, Macy’s announced it would close 68 stores, resulting in the loss of 6,200 jobs across the company. Sears said in a statement on Thursday it would close 150 stores, including 41 Sears locations and 109 Kmarts. The company did not specify how many jobs would be lost along with the closures.
