Ashmore posts highest net inflows for four years, shares up

After a strong performance for many emerging markets since early 2016, as concerns over the economic outlook receded, investor sentiment has continued to improve, driving the rise in assets. "Investors are increasingly focussing on Emerging Markets and it is encouraging to see strong inflows this quarter," said Chief Executive Mark Coombs said in a statement. A reduction in Ashmore's equity interest in Taiping Fund Management Company during the period resulted in a reduction in assets of $300 million, it said.

Emerging markets fund manager Ashmore hit by sluggish inflows

Emerging markets-focused asset manager Ashmore reported a return to net inflows for the first time since 2013 on Thursday, although client demand and underlying profit growth lagged expectations and sent its shares lower. After a long period of underperformance on concerns about the economic outlook, many emerging markets have posted double-digit returns over the last year as sentiment improved, prompting Ashmore's stock to outperform developed market peers. Net (LSE: 0LN0.L - news) inflows of $1.9 billion in the year to the end of June showed demand was proving slow to return.

Pace of outflows slows at British fund manager Aberdeen

Britain's Aberdeen Asset Management said the pace of outflows from its emerging markets-focused equity funds has slowed considerably, as it reported a jump in first-half revenue due to market gains and cost cuts. The performance marks the latest stage of a slow recovery for Aberdeen, which for several years has borne the brunt of investor caution over emerging markets, in addition to broad industry pressures including rising costs and a squeeze on fees. "These figures reflect improving sentiment towards emerging markets," said Aberdeen Chief Executive Martin Gilbert.

Schroders Q1 assets up 5 pct, led by retail, wealth management

British fund manager Schroders said on Thursday that total assets under management and administration rose 5 percent in the three months to end-March, led by growth in its retail funds and wealth management. The update was the first issued by the company in a newly shortened format in which it provided a total assets figure for each of its divisions without a breakdown of how inflows of client money and market moves impacted the figure. Schroders said last December it would no longer issue full results in its first and third quarters, emphasising its focus was on sustainable growth for the longer term.
