The amount of records exposed is down 67% year-over-year, but excluding the “mega” breaches of [Verizon Communications (VZ) unit] Yahoo and Equifax (EFX) in their respective years, records exposed is only down 7.7% year-over-year. The mega breach was at Equifax, which exposed more than 145.5 million records due to a vulnerability exploited in an open-source application.
