By utility standards, it was a bold move. In may, Dominion Resources became Dominion Energy, signaling its shift from a traditional utility dependent on commodities like coal for electricity production to a more diversified company that can tap solar and wind power, run electric and natural-gas transmission lines, and oversee a growing business storing and transporting liquefied natural gas. Driven by its power portfolio, Dominion (ticker:ticker::D) expects to increase earnings at a 6%-to-8% annual clip over the next few years, and to raise its generous dividend by about 10% each year.
Facebook Inc. agreed to power a 1 million-square foot data center it’s building near Richmond, Virginia, with solar energy from Dominion Resources Inc.
