Paul Dacre, editor of the UK's Daily Mail, to stand down

The editor of Britain's Daily Mail tabloid Paul Dacre will stand down after 26 years in November to become chairman and editor-in-chief of the title's publisher, Associated Newspapers, Daily Mail and General Trust said on Wednesday. Dacre, who is Britain's longest-serving and best-paid newspaper editor, said he was stepping back from day-to-day editing by his 70th birthday to take on broader challenges in the company, which also owns the popular MailOnline website. Dacre had provided "brilliant stewardship" of the Daily Mail and other titles in the group over three decades, said DMGT's chairman, Jonathan Harmsworth, "and often set the political agenda through six prime ministerships".

The publisher of Britain's Daily Mail said it was cautious about the outlook as it simplifies the group in the face of challenging markets, particularly weak advertising. Daily Mail & General Trust said its guidance for the full-year remained unchanged but said it expected slower revenue growth in the second half of the year due to difficult conditions in the ad market as well as its property information division. GLOBAL MARKETS-Dollar eases, stocks climb amid benign U.S. inflation

The U.S. dollar eased on Friday while an index of global stock performance gained and was poised for its best week since early March, as moderate inflation eased worries about a faster pace of U.S. interest rate hikes and boosted risk appetite. The dollar fell for a third day against a basket of major currencies as traders booked recent gains, which were tied to widening interest rate gaps in favor of the United States and signs of slower growth elsewhere in the world. Oil prices slipped but remained near 3-1/2 year highs as the prospect of new U.S. sanctions against Iran might reduce Middle East supply at a time when global crude production is just keeping pace with rising demand.
