"Following the November 2020 vote in favor of statehood for Puerto Rico, S. 780 recognizes the results and calls for Puerto Rico’s admission to the Union as a State once certain requirements are met: “Subject to the provisions of this Act, and upon issuance of the proclamation required by section 7(c), the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico is hereby declared to be a State of the United States of America, and as such shall be declared admitted into the Union on an equal footing with the other States in all respects.”

It further calls for a ratification vote, allowing the people of Puerto Rico to vote on acceptance of Congress’s offer of statehood after the bill passes in Congress and is signed by the president. This was the same process followed by Alaska and Hawaii.

The bill states that the laws, government, and borders of Puerto Rico will be unchanged, except that any laws contrary to statehood will automatically be repealed."

"Holocaust denial is nothing new. It began as soon as the camps were liberated. General Dwight Eisenhower, supreme commander of Allied Forces in Europe, anticipated such denial might occur.

"I made the visit [to a concentration camp] deliberately, in order to be in a position to give first-hand evidence . . .if ever in future there develops a tendency to charge these allegations merely to propaganda," he explained. His fears were soon realized. Deniers claim either that the genocide never happened or that the numbers killed were grossly exaggerated.

The Texas episode adds a new insidious twist to this old lie. Rather than openly denying the murder of 6 million people, it labels the genocide as a subject for debate rather than an established fact. The call for opposing points of view sounds reasonable. Why not expose students to different interpretations? That argument works for genuinely disputed issues but not verified events. "

"Kaiser Family Foundation estimated how many COVID-19 deaths were among unvaccinated adults and could have been prevented since June 2021 when safe and effective COVID-19 vaccines became widely available to all adults in the U.S. From June through September 2021, approximately 90,000 COVID-19 deaths among adults likely would have been prevented with vaccination."

They had some interesting insights about MS on (http://Multistockalerts.com). Definitely made me think twice about the company.

I am really skeptical of Jane's strategy push into wealth management in Asia. When Morgan Stanley bought Smith Barney from Citi during housing crisis, it took them very long to grow it into power house across the firm. Today MS is a fierce competitor and along with Goldman and JP Morgan penetration into global M&A, underwriting and advisory businesses is very high. How Citi plans to gain market share in such competition is a big unknown to me. It could well be that the spent capital on wealth in Asia that it gets from exiting overseas consumer businesses delivers very marginal benefits to both top and bottom lines. On investor day in 2022 the management could announce execution plans for such strategy taking many years or even decade before shareholders could see real benefits. On top of that, if some sort of major growth slowdown or another financial or economic crisis arrive, the management would still talk about what it can control and what is beyond control like Corbat and his team did.

MS Interview of Gorman (after earnings):

CRAMER: Well that’s what we’re going to talk about. At one point, Morgan Stanley before you came in, had what I regarded as episodic earnings. They’d be good, and then bad and good and bad and therefore it’s very hard to give a price earnings multiple. The business that you’re bringing in, including by the way E*TRADE, is really sticky and steadily growth, growth, secular growth. And I’m wondering what you when you sit around your board meetings, doesn’t someone say, you know what, how come we’re still at 12 times earnings because this is a secular growth story, it’s not cyclical, I’m trying to understand why you’re not given a greater price.

GORMAN: Yeah, well it’s getting there. I mean to be fair we were, you know, we were sub 10 and I thought that was just nuts. We’re now managing if you put wealth and asset management together, which gives us the balance, that’s about six and a half trillion on that we’re generating revenues of over 30 billion. Just that, and that’s very sticky but on the other hand the investment bank and what it’s done the resurgence of fixed income after it was restructured dramatically in 2015. You know, equities is number one, the investment bank itself and M&A is on fire, the equity underwriting. So, Jim, it’s this balance and speed concept that I’ve talked about, and, you know, we’re starting to get the multiple. I mean we’re getting the recognition, you look at some of the other pure wealth players in the marketplace, they’re trading at, you know, 20, 30 times earnings, you know, we’d love a piece of that and I think our investors are starting to understand that so it’s getting there.

"OKLAHOMA CITY — A coalition of civil rights groups sued the state of Oklahoma on Tuesday over a law limiting instruction about race and gender in public schools. It is the first federal lawsuit to challenge a state statute implemented to prevent the teaching of critical race theory.

The suit, backed by the American Civil Liberties Union and the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law, argues that HB 1775, which took effect in May, violates students’ and teachers’ free speech rights and denies people of color, LGBTQ students and girls the chance to learn their history.

The Oklahoma law bans teaching that anyone is “inherently racist, sexist or oppressive, whether consciously or unconsciously,” or that they should feel “discomfort, guilt, anguish or any other form of psychological distress” because of their race or sex. Under rules imposed by the state, teachers or administrators found in violation of the law can lose their licenses, and schools can lose accreditation.

The lawsuit asks a federal judge to immediately halt enforcement of the law and declare it unconstitutional under the First and Fourteenth amendments."

    Texas fascisti on tape:

"SOUTHLAKE, Texas — A top administrator with the Carroll Independent School District in Southlake advised teachers last week that if they have a book about the Holocaust in their classroom, they should also offer students access to a book from an “opposing” perspective, according to an audio recording obtained by NBC News.

Gina Peddy, the Carroll school district’s executive director of curriculum and instruction, made the comment Friday afternoon during a training session on which books teachers can have in classroom libraries. The training came four days after the Carroll school board, responding to a parent’s complaint, voted to reprimand a fourth grade teacher who had kept an anti-racism book in her classroom.

A Carroll staff member secretly recorded the Friday training and shared the audio with NBC News.

“Just try to remember the concepts of [House Bill] 3979,” Peddy said in the recording, referring to a new Texas law that requires teachers to present multiple perspectives when discussing “widely debated and currently controversial” issues. “And make sure that if you have a book on the Holocaust,” Peddy continued, “that you have one that has an opposing, that has other perspectives.”

“How do you oppose the Holocaust?” one teacher said in response.

“Believe me,” Peddy said. “That’s come up."

"Weak Trading Performance to Mar Morgan Stanley (MS) Q3 Earnings"

But the facts prove otherwise ...BOOM !
"Revenue and net income jumped more than 25% from a year ago, aided by CEO James Gorman’s acquisitions of E-Trade and Eaton Vance, which bulked up the firms’ wealth and asset management divisions. Shares of the bank rose 1.5%.

“The Firm delivered another very strong quarter, with robust revenues and improved efficiency,” Gorman said in the release. “We had standout performance of our integrated investment bank and record net new assets of $135 billion in wealth management.”

While rival banks have reported a slowdown in third-quarter fixed income trading revenue, Morgan Stanley’s strength has traditionally been in its equities franchise, the biggest in the world.

Equities trading revenue jumped 24% from a year earlier to $2.88 billion, topping the StreetAccount estimate by more than $500 million. Fixed income revenue dropped 16% to $1.64 billion, edging out the $1.53 billion estimate."

Bought at 40...price seems to have peaked...dont want to sell, as I dont see a better alternative....GS is even more expensive...I already have AB. Dont like commercial banks like BAC. I guess I will just hold on to it and save the taxes I will have to pay.

Why JP Morgan beat expectations and still went down negative and Morgan Stanley is positive? Doesn't make sense. Can someone explain?
