BP Plc is considering an initial public offering of its vast U.S. Midwest and Gulf Coast pipeline assets, the company said on Tuesday, a move that would raise cash. The proposed spinoff, which would be called BP Midstream Partners (IOB: 0QOQ.IL - news) , revives a plan first broached internally about five years ago before slumping crude oil prices caused the company to put the idea on hold, a person familiar with the proposal said. A spinoff likely would be one of the larger initial public offerings of the year, the person said, speaking on the condition of anonymity as the talks were private.

A tropical depression formerly known as Tropical Storm Cindy caused flooding on Thursday in several U.S. southeastern states, spawned a tornado that injured four people in Alabama, and cut 16 percent of Gulf of Mexico oil production. Cindy was a tropical storm when it made landfall near the Louisiana-Texas border about 3 a.m. CT (0800 GMT) Thursday, then weakened as it traveled north. By afternoon, it was over northern Louisiana, and its heavy rains had resulted in flooding and road closures in each state bordering the Gulf, from eastern Texas to northwestern Florida.
Oil prices held onto gains on Thursday with U.S. prices rising on evidence that gasoline demand could strengthen in the world's biggest oil market, although bloated crude supplies meant that fuel markets remain under pressure. "We do not view the recent excess U.S. builds as derailing our forecast for a gradual draw in inventories, with in fact the rest of the world already showing signs of tightness," the bank said in a note to clients.

Enbridge Inc (Dusseldorf: EN3.DU - news) has approved a new stream of heavy Canadian crude for export on one of its major oil pipelines to the United States, according to four trading sources. Canada produces more heavy than light crude because of its vast oil sands projects in northern Alberta. Enbridge's plan to squeeze more heavy crude onto its pipelines by shipping the new grade is its latest attempt to resolve bottlenecks in the 2.85 million barrel per day (bpd) Mainline system, traders in Calgary said.
