French mining group Eramet said on Wednesday it could develop jointly with Suez a recycling facility in France for electric vehicle batteries by 2024. Eramet, a major producer of nickel and manganese for the steel sector, has focused increasingly on materials for electric vehicles. In addition to large mine deposits in Indonesia and Argentina, it sees recycling as contributing to its potential to cover 20% of the European Union's nickel requirements, 25% of the bloc's lithium needs and 12% of its cobalt demand for EV batteries by 2030.
PARIS (Reuters) -A consortium backed by Airbus and Safran has agreed to buy superalloys supplier Aubert & Duval from Eramet after the French government stepped in to protect its strategic interests in the maker of fighter jet and submarine parts. The preliminary deal comes more than a year after mining group Eramet , launched a review of its loss-making specialist metal alloys business and entered talks with Airbus, jet engine maker Safran and Tikehau Ace Capital. The provisional agreement, which the parties expect to finalise before year end, gives the loss-making A&D business an enterprise value of 95 million euros ($107.3 million), Eramet said.
French mining company Eramet said on Tuesday that New Caledonia had authorised its SLN subsidiary to export an additional 2 million tonnes of nickel ore per year, as part of steps to revive the struggling nickel producer. The extra volume, which will allow SLN to export up to 6 million tonnes of nickel ore annually, has been a key demand of Eramet as it attempts to turn around the business that has faced recurring losses due to high costs. The increase in exports to 6 million tonnes is expected to be achieved by 2024, Eramet said in a statement.
